Enemas and Anal Douching: Keeping Clean

If you're worried about residual fecal matter or odors you can try a pre-anal enema up to 2 hours before sex. If you have a massaging shower head you can set it on "pulsate" and direct the stream into your anus. (Make sure you're not using to much water pressure so that you don't cause damage.) You should feel a full sensation as the water enters your colon. Simply evacuate your bowels over the toilet and repeat until the water runs clean.

Fleet saline enemas (which can be purchased at any drugstore) are easy to use and cause very little discomfort. If you just follow the directions on the back of the box you should be fine. However, keep in mind that the amount of matter usually present in the colon isn't enough to warrant a full-scale colon cleansing like the methods described above.

Generally, just a shower with soap and water will do the trick.

What’s the difference between an anal plug and a dildo?

Anal Plugs are generally designed to be inserted and left alone during sex and masturbation. While not necessarily designed for anal use, A dildo is often used to provide sexual pleasure through both vaginal or anal penetration with an in/out motion. Take care to only use dildos with flanged bases so you won't "lose" your toy.

What kind of anal toy is better: Hard or Soft?

This is a very personal preference. However, the anus is delicate and prone to tearing, so for safety reasons, we prefer flexible anal toys. The advantages of soft anal toys are numerous: They warm with body heat, conform to body shape and offer a more realistic feel. However, some people prefer the smooth, heavy feel of a hard toy. Hard materials like plastic, metal and acrylic anal toys are also very easy to clean.

Does size matter?

When choosing an anal toy, width is generally more of an a deciding issue than length. It's always a good idea to start small and work your way up! If you don't have much experience with anal sex, try starting out with a smooth anal dildo less than 5" long, and with a maximum diameter of 1.25".

What are the best anal sex toys?

We judge anal toys by the following criteria: Is it designed for anal sex with a safety-base? Is it made from a non-porous material (like silicone) that can be completely disinfected? And, is it well-designed in a stimulating shape that will conform to the body? A few of our favorite anal sex toys that meet these high standards are the Tantus Pro-Touch, the Fun Factory Felix, the Rude Boy and the Aneros.

Can you have an orgasm from anal stimulation?

Absolutely! The anus, richly endowed with nerve endings and interconnected with the main pelvic muscles, is the closest erogenous neighbor of the genitals and contracts rhythmically during orgasm. Many women report that they can achieve orgasms from anal stimulation alone. In men, anal penetration stimulates the prostate as well as the penile bulb which can result in powerful orgasms, much like a woman's g-spot.

What are anal beads?

Anal Beads (also known as "Thai Beads") are inserted one by one into the rectum and then slowly pulled out during orgasm to intensify orgasm.

Is anal play with toys safe?

By following a few simple rules, anal play can be fun and safe.

1. The Golden Rule: lubricant and lots of it! The rectum is not a self-lubricating organ like the vagina and is more prone to bruising and tearing.

2. Relax and take it slow. Breathe into each stroke.

3. When engaging in anal play, ALWAYS use a toy with a flared base or a product designed specifically for this type of sex. Regular probes and vibrators can be lost inside the rectum.

4. Don’t share anal toys. If you do, cover them with a condom. Disinfect toys with an anti-bacterial toy cleaner after each and every use.

5. Never use a toy from anus to vagina unless you change condoms in between.

6. If it hurts, STOP.

How are anal lubricants different from regular lubricants?

Anal lubricants tend to be thicker and richer than traditional lubricants and act as a “cushion” to the sensitive tissues of the rectum. NEVER use home products like Vaseline or Crisco. They aren't compatible with the human body and will break down latex condoms.

I want to try anal sex, but how do I bring it up with my female partner?

Naturally, communication is the key. Anal sex is something you just "fall into" so rather than surprising your partner, try approaching the subject in a sensitive but light-hearted way. Bring up an article about a fun anal toy you read about in a magazine or on a website. And before you do try actual anal penetration, try the lighter forms of anal exploration on her, like rimming (anal tongue play) and light stroking of the fingers around the perineum.

When you've decided to progress to the real thing, make sure you use plenty of lubricant and take it slow. Small anal plugs and probes are a great way to "warm up" the anus for intercourse.

Is it safe to “share” toys with a partner or friends?

ANY object that comes in contact with the genitals (and especially the anus) can transfer bacteria or viruses. That means, they should always be completely disinfected before use, or covered with a condom. It’s always better to use your own toys during sex with a partner, but if you must share, it is preferable to use silicone, Pyrex glass, or hard plastic toys. Their non-porous surfaces are easier to clean and will not trap bacteria. You will still need to cover them with a new condom each time you switch them back and forth during sex.

I’m a straight guy that wants to experiment with anal play but I’m embarrassed.

Get over it. The good news is men have a G-spot just like women, and it’s called the prostate gland. When stimulated (by way of the anus), this pressure sensitive organ can help produce some of the most mind blowing orgasms you’ve ever had.
EVERYONE has the ability to enjoy anal
stimulation: male, female, gay or straight and more heterosexual couples are experimenting with anal sex every day.. Why should outdated cultural conditioning dictate how you can enjoy your own body? As long as what you do is safe and consensual, you have nothing to worry about.  Click here to see our Men's Prostate stimulators.
