You should always keep your sex toys clean. That said, it's particularly important to disinfect items that come in contact with the rectum, like plugs, probes and anal dildos. You don't want to transfer bacteria from the rectum to another part of your body-or someone else. (When sharing anal toys, always cover the toy with a condom and change the condom each time you pass it back and forth.)

Non-vibrating dildos and probes are easiest to clean because they can be completely immersed in hot, soapy water. If they are made from materials like silicone or Pyrex-grade glass they may be boiled, bleached, or sanitized on the top rack of the dishwasher. Do not use silicone lubricants with silicone toys, or oil based lubricants with latex toys. If you don’t know the material of your toy, you can stay on the safe side by using a water-based lubricant like Eros Liquid.

Though soft materials like Jelly rubber and Cyberskin are far too porous to be truly disinfected, you can spray them down with a good anti-bacterial Sex Toy Cleaner to discourage the growth of bacteria and keep them smelling fresh.

Anal vibrators can be cleaned by wiping them down with a damp, soapy washcloth. (Take care not to wet the internal components.) Clean your toy after each and every use and only store them when they are completely dry.

Moisture can cause batteries to corrode a vibrator’s internal components, shortening the life span of the toy. If you live in an area where high humidity can’t be avoided, you can remove the batteries from your toy when it’s not being used.

Take care when loading and unloading your anal vibrator with batteries! The internal components of most toys are extremely fragile and can be broken through rough handling.
